Each number has a place in the heart of the regular players. Each will remember the time they needed to hear its name in order to land the big one, or the time that they did hear it and it changed their evening from one of maybe to one of surety.

The numbers also have their own nicknames. Sometimes the names just purely rhyme with the number and other times they have a specific relation to the number. Here are a few of those nicknames you will hear shouted in Bingo halls up and down the country.

• Number 1 – Kelly’s Eye – Named after the one-eyed Australian gangster Ned Kelly
• Number 2 – One Little Duck – It’s because the no.2 is shaped like a duck. When this number is called the players generally quack.
• Number 3 – Cup of tea
• Number 4 – Knock at the door – this number is associated with the nursery rhyme “One, two, buckle my shoe”
• Number 11 – Legs Eleven – Referring to two straight up legs. The players will wolf whistle when this number is called out.
• Number 12 – One dozen
• Number 16 – Sweet Sixteen
• Number 20 – Blind Twenty
• Number 22 - Two little ducks – players will once again quack when they here this number.
